The longest lochs in Scotland then and now are Loch Awe (25.47 miles), then Loch Ness (24.24 miles) and thirdly Loch Lomond (24.23).. For example, on Timothy Pont's map of Strathnaver is his reference to 'a monstrous hole, 180 fatham deepe' in Loch Ereboll, whilst more usefully both the Blaeu Atlas texts (1654) and the later Statistical.
The Loch Awe ride
Lochawe is a picturesque village located at the north end of Loch Awe, 3 miles west of Dalmally. The village developed after the arrival of the railway in the 1870s and has magnificent views across Loch Awe to Kilchurn Castle and Ben Lui beyond. At 25 miles Loch Awe is the longest freshwater loch in Scotland and a popular destination for fisherman.

Map of Loch Awe 1. St Conan's Kirk The village of Loch Awe lies at the north end of Loch Awe. It's home to Saint Conan's Kirk, which is a fabulous place to visit. The original St Conan's Kirk was built between 1881 and 1886 by Walter Campbell. In 1907 he began work on a much more ambitious church.
